Plot
Eric Roberts has been in a lot of crap, lately. Somehow, filmmakers have been trying to leverage their marketing with his name and face, but that’s a double-edged sword, considering he just doesn’t give a damn and smirks all the time. He’s a repellent to some, a legend to others, and he has bills to pay. The rest of the cast is far more involved and interesting.
I went in with no expectations and I was surprised by the visual quality. The neat photography is a promise that things are going to be fine, and they are. The dialogue flows. The cast fits in the palm of a hand, and the shooting locations are limited. This ensures optimal production design, a budget profitably spent, and proximity with the characters.
I loved to watch Melissa Kunnap’s character slowly losing her mind and playing with her open wound in silence while people around are small talking. I felt her distress. At no time did her head spin and not once did she vomit pea soup. Writer James Blankenfeld treats this possession film like it’s the only one in existence; with no allusion or common tropes of the subgenre.
